Dark Souls 2 (PS3/PS4) Gamechive (Location Guide: All Pharros' Contraptions)
"Location Guide: All Pharros' Contraptions"—All throughout Drangleic, Pharros' Contraptions are found that function like locked doors, which when activated, generally unlock illusory walls, from behind which are found treasure or pathways. Some activate traps too, so beware. To unlock these contraptions, Pharros' Lockstones are required, which function as keys*. There are a total of forty-seven (47) contraptions to be found throughout the game**. They can be accessed in any order, but are shown here in the following order:
Contraption #1: Forest of Fallen Giants
Located on the wall below the room with wooden ballistas. Behind the illusory wall are two metal chests, with a Titanite Slab and a Chloranthy Ring.
Contraption #2: No-man's Wharf
Located after the first dock area, up the stairs, and to the right of the building w/archers. This contraption brightens the area.
Contraption #3-4: The Lost Bastille (x2)
From the Exile Holding Cells Bonfire, down the ladder, and to the right, is a breakable wooden wall that opens into another area. Further ahead is a building with royal soldiers. At the top level there is a path that leads into an open room w/more soldiers. The first contraption is found here, and activates two illusory walls. The first holds a wooden chest w/Soul Vessel. The second has a metal chest w/Wilted Dusk Herb, and provides an elevator shortcut to the upper levels. The second contraption is found in a room underneath the Servants' Quarters Bonfire, and leads to Belfry Luna.
Contraption #5-6: Earthen Peak (x2)
Transitioning to Earthen Peak, take the steps downward into the poison-filled water. Follow ahead, and turn right into a small room with the first contraption. This activates an illusory wall with a Poisonbite Ring and a Soul of a Proud Knight inside a metal chest. The second contraption is found near the boss fog gate. Follow the lit passage upward, then go right. In this room is a second contraption which creates a pool of water and heals poison (after the windmill is burned).
Contraption #7-9: Iron Keep (x3)
The first is found after lowering the first bridge in Iron Keep. Cross over, go right, then leap to get the Dull Ember. Enter the small room and climb the ladder. Use the contraption on the wall. This creates a pool of water, and provides fire resistance. The second contraption is found after the Iron Hearth Hall Bonfire, past the metal walkways, and through the ornate door on the left. The contraption is on the wall, and behind the illusory wall it activates is a ladder that reaches up to the Belfry Sol area with a Thunder Quartz Ring +1 in a nearby metal chest. To reach the third contraption, head back to Iron Keep (with the walkways). Take the ladder in the back, then follow the stairs to another ladder. The contraption is at the top, and when activated, creates a pool of water that boosts fire resistance.
Contraption #10-33: Doors of Pharros (x24)
As the amount of contraptions are numerous, watch the video for area exploration and exact locations. The contraptions mostly unlock traps, but the following are found: Santier's Spear, Magic Arrow (x15), and a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
Contraption #34-41: Grave of Saints (x8)
As the amount of contraptions are numerous, watch the video for area exploration and exact locations. The contraptions mostly unlock traps, but the following are found: Whisper of Despair (hex), Torch, and Poison Moss (x2).
Contraption #42: Shrine of Amana
Not far from the Crumbled Ruins Bonfire is an underwater contraption. It activates an illusory wall w/Helix Halberd in a metal chest.
Contraption #43: Undead Crypt
In the room that a player drops into (enemies ring a bell), a wall has an illusory section, with a contraption behind it. That activates another illusory wall, with a metal chest that contains an Olenford's Staff and a Great Lightning Spear miracle.
Contraption #44: Aldia's Keep
In the next room after the pull-chain dragon statue, a contraption hangs along the right part of the wall. Activating it lights up the hallway.
Contraption #45: Dragon Shrine
Not far after the Shrine Entrance Bonfire is an archway with barrels. The contraption is underneath, and when activated, reveals an illusory wall where a metal chest contains a Staff of Wisdom and Judgment Armor set.
Contraption #46-47: Memory of Orro (x2)
These are accessed via the giant's remains beyond where the Pursuer was fought in Forest of Fallen Giants. In the memory is an upward path w/room full of hollows. The first contraption activates an illusory wall in the back of the room. Inside that room is a trap chest w/Soul of a Hero (x3), an illusory wall, and another contraption that activates a blade trap. Behind the illusory wall are two metal chests with the Steel Armor set and a Fire Seed.
