Dark souls 2 is hard; The end.
But it isn't harder, or easier, it's just a tad cheaper and a bit shinier.
past that? streamlined dark souls combat system, same amount of depth, etc, etc.
okay, here comes the foreshortened version of the review.
ready?
you sure?
.....
kay.
Pros:
-FUCKIN VOICECHAT!!!(sorry, I love to talk)
-Same level of depth that can be seen from dark souls in terms of combat and design, slightly more clever use of level design made to fool the eyes.
-Difficulty curve is still difficult, small things like dodging now require devoting levels to stats like agility in order to place them on par with dark souls 1, also, death means losing your max health slowly, like in demon's souls, only less instantaneous.
-Far more beautiful and detailed world worthy of a look that hides moar death than ever before.
-Somewhat better graphics, much better animations and a finer hitbox system that requires more skill.
-Gorgeous music, bosses, levels and otherwise.
-Makes effective use of the coop system to enhance the experience and make the game more accessible.
-Immediate fast travel.
-Deep plot contained within item descriptions and a very good array of weapons that add serious depth to the game.
the world has PvP minigames! it's awesome!
-Ornstein returns
WITH A VENGEANCE-
-The ratbro covenant.
-The emerald herald's amazing chest.

Cons:
-Still no goddamned map.
-Gavlan's prices.
-Enemy laser tracking basically forces you to devote points to the agility section in order to survive their attacks, i'm looking at you giant mace wielding enemies!!!
-Invasions are much harder to pull off and regardless of covenant, you feel like you're being punished for invading.
-Dark souls 2 is now notably cheaper thanks to areas devoted to trapping and gangbanging you with no way out save for sheer luck.
-PvP has been reduced to either the iron keep bridge, or various arenas, it's a sad day for dark souls players when they can't even have fun invading.
-Bosses feel like a pvp primer, ironically enough, few, if any are non-humanoids with a specific weapon and moveset that can't be found in other players.
-Soul memory is useless and eventually bars you from enjoyable coop or pvp altogether, forcing you to make a new character.
-The convenience of the game's fast travel system and accessibility also come with the sacrificing of various pvp elements that made dark souls 1 great, but are offset by various elements from demon's souls making a return.
-Built around pvp, there's no other word for it, the boss design, the level design, this game was built around its multiplayer, and suffers as a result.

It's a hard judgement to make, but in the end, dark souls 2 is basically a different version of dark souls 1, it loses a lot of what made ds1 great, but it gains a lot of demon's souls quality that offsets that loss substantially.
in the end, dark souls 2 gets a nine out of ten and my ninja seal of badassossity for finally being more accessible without resorting to gimmicks, they basically just made coop more fun.
the downside is, invading is now a tedious chore.
so....yeah....thanks From....you jerks... *throws away cracked red eye orb angrily*
I SLAUGHTERED TEN MILLION EVIL PIGLETS FOR THIS!!!
