Dark Souls 3: How to Do Parry Menu Swaps (W/Handcam)
The biggest thing to performing menu swaps is just practice, at some point many inputs will become muscle memory. I personally started out watching ThePlatinum_7 and thinking I’d never be able to do menu swaps, then I started watching StrayKurtis and tried doing Silvercat Ring swaps during mid fall, then I was watching Ibarbo who gave me a few tips, and then when I was setting up a new character build I decided to just practice on hostile npcs as I progressed. With that I found that I was only missing the window because I didn’t understand a small detail (pressing Options to close the menu, more on that later).
In my opinion the most important part of learning swaps is just practice (npcs are a huge help for this) and knowing what you want to swap (be it weapon, ring, or armor). My first bit of advice is sorting your cluttered inventory to ONLY have items you want to swap to, try to place or remove (focus on removing) redundant items to have your target equipment next to what you normally have equipped, remember you can use L3 to sort your inventory in different ways (weight, effect, damage, absorption, etc). Next, memorize the direction input you need to do to get to the equipment slot you want to swap and then memorize the direction input you need to get to your target equipment.
Practice on some npcs; the Drakeblood Knight spawns indefinitely without any interference and he's right next to a bonfire, Ricard is the same but you’ll have the serpent caster nearby to deal with, and provided you didn’t kill them you can also use any normal human npc you don’t mind aggro’ing. You can also use a few humanoid enemies such as the Lothric and Black Knights but the timing on them is slightly smaller and at times inconsistent. If you have a friend who has some free time you might want to ask if they'd be willing to help as well, so you can become adjusted to the subtle timing difference latency might have on your initial and exiting menu inputs.
Now for the "tricky" part (listed with PS4 controller scheme).
L2, Options (I press this almost at the same time as I do the L2),
X, Directional input to equipment slot (I generally press the first direction input as I'm pressing X)
DELAY (the menu will be greyed out for a few frames, wait for it to return to normal)
X, Directional input to target equipment, X
Options (this will close the menu immediately, without having to press back several times)
R1 (I generally am pressing this right as I am Options and you can even double tap it to play it safe)
Overall: L2, Options, X, Directional Input, DELAY, X, Directional Input, X, Options, R1
Note: on a PS4 controller the touchpad also works for Options
In regards to the DELAY; pressing X too soon will result in the message "Cannot change equipment" you can press Options to cancel this and if you're fast enough even salvage the riposte by pressing R1. Get used to this timing asap. You can practice up to this part without a parry confirm, just throw out a whiffed parry and enter the menu as fast as you can.
In all honesty the hardest part of doing menu swaps, imo, is having the confidence to get a parry and be willing to potentially throw away the riposte if you mess up.
I personally use menu swaps just as a way to add a little style to my fights but you can certainly use them to increase damage and such. It's entirely possible to even do Full Armor swaps, detailed in the video and likely something you'll understand naturally if you start going for them so I won't detail that here. You can even do a Weapon Toggle + Swap, Weapon + Ring Swap, Weapon + Bundle + Ring ( https://youtu.be/mt8IF2YuqCc ), and with 2H shield shenanigans even Full Armor + Weapon/Ring ( https://youtu.be/o8lJX7pJ6Lg ). The timing is more relaxed than you probably think it is, you just need practice.
There are several other people who do swaps better than me but I know when I started out that the only details I could find was through the direct advice of those I followed. Hopefully this helps anyone who is trying to find a starting point.
