This invasion was in the Catacombs of Carthus at meta sl range. So either this player was grossly overleveled with muled armor and shield or they were in a NG+ cycle. Heavily doubting the former leaves me to assume that it is a NG+ cycle and that as such the host has beaten the game before.

Being able to clear the game with nothing more than R1 spam is only one of the many reasons why I get annoyed when I hear someone stating that they're afraid of playing Dark Souls because it's too hard. This host was able to beat the game with what I'm guessing was an uninfused Dark Sword and although he/she died in this invasion the amount of times you're invaded throughout a standard playthrough is insignificant. The game may seem hard at first but with any amount of perseverance, determination, or stubbornness you should clear it with ease. The reputation of being a hard game far exceeds its actual difficulty.
