Dark Valefor is rather unique among the superbosses of this game as while it can hit the whole party at any time with tremendously powerful moves, its attacks cannot inflict more than 9999 damage, the only exception being its overdrive. This allows us to use a rather simple setup to make ourselves effectively immortal to it so long as we bring in a Hasted Yuna to summon aeons whenever it has its overdrive. I'm certain many people theorycrafted this way of killing it, but surprisingly didn't find any videos of people actually doing it, so here is one.

Using a tank with Break HP Limit we have a character who will always survive Dark Valefor's attacks. Its normal attacks and Sonic Wings can even be tanked with Guard/Sentinel. In order to recover from Energy Ray, however, we need Auto-Potion and Auto-Phoenix - at least one of them - to win this fight reliably. We could go without both of them but it introduces some luck reliance as while the other 2 characters are still down after Energy Ray, Dark Valefor could end up stunlocking us with Sonic Wings until it has its overdrive. Having both is most comfortable as this means we can simply use Guard constantly and we don't have characters dying outside of Energy Ray at all so it speeds things up as well.

Dark Valefor has 800000 HP, so in order to finish this fight before we run out of aeons, we need to abuse Rikku's Trio of 9999 mix. It's best combined with elemental Gems as they hit 5 times, so if you have multiple characters with Use, just spam them. Tidus, Wakka and Lulu's overdrives all work well too. Don't attack with anything less than at least a Fire Gem, otherwise you just make Dark Valefor gain its overdrive needlessly quickly. I also gave Auron a Counterattack weapon so he would occasionally contribute single hits for free, since Dark Valefor isn't very evasive.

He can stall you out quite a bit if he keeps spamming Energy Ray, but regardless of what moves he uses, since a Hasted Auron at these stats trades turns 1 for 1 with it outside of Sonic Wings, he at least can't kill us unless we make a mistake, making this fight almost completely luck-free.

- Break HP Limit is customized with 30x Wings to Discovery, which you get by finishing the Remiem Temple race while opening 3 chests.
- Auto-Potion is customized with 4x Stamina Tablet, stolen from chests at the Moonflow North end, Yunalesca, Adamantoises, or even Dark Ixion (you can flee from the fight).
- Auto-Phoenix is customized with 20x Mega Phoenix, which you can bribe from a Ghost in the Sunken Cave with about 200000 Gil.
- If your tank's HP is only between 4000-5000, you can also customize HP +30% using 1 Stamina Tonic; you get 99 of these from the monster arena guy simply for capturing the 3 monsters in Besaid.
- Gambler Spirits for mixing Trio of 9999 are obtained by stealing from Original Creations. There are better ways of getting them, but this method is easily available before even setting foot into the final dungeon.

Tidus, Yuna and Auron all carry First Strike weapons, this nicely serves being able to put Haste on Yuna and immediately switch her out at the start. Wakka comes in with critical HP since I had an SOS-Haste armor for him. You don't really need it though, since he's dead weight for a long time after launching his overdrive anyways.
