Thief on thief violence! When will the chaos end?!

No, but really. They added a PVP system into the game that has no impact on your campaign or characters (sorta, this time it took off 10 stress...) where all the moves have been rebalanced and now YOU have to deal with the death blow chance.

That said, I'm 95% certain I was facing a tutorial bot or something.

Darkest Dungeon is a game with a town-restoration system hinging on gold, heirlooms and getting your teams experience. Death is permanent and the worst that can happen is always just a bad coin flip away. On top of that your worst foe is the inventory limit as you have to choose between much needed treasure and food/bandages to stay alive with.
