Part 7. I can't say that this surpasses the first game, but it is a damn fine game. It very much is more of the same just bigger. There's The Forge Lands, The Kingdom of the Dead and the Angel and Demon's realms. The last 2 both being relatively short compared to the first 2. There are also 3 separate stand alone DLCs,.It operates a lot like a Zelda game mixed with God of War styled combat. The same as the first. The gimmick here is that it's a loot based game. Enemies drop loot based on their level and chests drop loot based on your current level. Eaxh weapon has stats and minor buffs which can be helpful. There is also some legendary gear that will actually scale with your level and is viable all game long. There are a ton of weapons to chose from as well. Your main weapon is the scythes, which are great on their own, and you also have a choice of about 8 secondary weapons. That's really where the fun comes in. They come in a huge variety and all of them are viable. I really liked the big bonkers, but there are quick weapons as well. Whatever suits your playstyle. You can also get possessed weapons and infuse your old weapons into them creating some really powerful gear. I honestly prefer the older way of Darksiders 1 of just having acouple weapons you can upgrade throughout the game, but Darksiders 2 adds way more customization. The game plays a lot like the first. You have main dungeons to advance the game and some side quests and dungeons as well. The new gear with abilities is pretty spread out. In the first game just about every new dungeon you went in had a new ability. D2 on the other hand has new ability gear very spread out. You can go multiple dungeons without getting something cool and new. The dungeons are all pretty cool and each has some unique ideas to keep pushing you forward. Speaking of dungeons, a lot of the areas are varied so the aesthetics constantly change keeping things fresh. The graphics are great and definitely hold up. That's actually really cool, with the hyper exaggerated and more cartoony characters and creatures the graphics aren't trying to replicate real life and look solid still. There are 2 skill trees you can go down. One that is clearly meant for offense and another that seems more defense oriented. I went with the Harbinger which was the offense route. You won't be able to max everything your first playthrough and there is even a level cap, which is a bit strange, but I guess they don't want you getting too OP. I still felt near unkillable towards the end. You can mix and match to your hearts content within the 2 skill trees, which is very nice and you can also even cheaply respec if you think you made a mistake. The combat is very smooth and the controls are solid. I played on Deathinitive difficulty and like most RPG games it starts out pretty rough but by end game I was easily killing everything. The bosses are a ton of fun, even the optional side quests offer some cool challenges and rewards. The Crucible was just about the only thing that really kicked my ass.I was not willing to put in more of the grind on New Game and went into NG+ to get a few more levels before absolutely destroying it. It doesn't scale but the last few rounds are above max level and can still be pretty tough, fun challenge. The PC version has issues and caused me quite a headache. The audio issues I had were not the game and were from OBS. On the other hand, the game liked to crash a lot and had lots of frame issues. It was not a super smooth experience. Fun game, bad PC port. I would like not to hold that against the game itself, when it was running well it was a freaking blast. I think the original Darksiders was a near perfect game for me, this one is a little flawed but really just more of the same. And that's freaking great. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
