Playthrough of TTI's 1992 platformer for the TurboGrafx-16, Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing Duck, released by TTI for the TurboGrafx-16 in 1992, offers a distinct take on the Disney superhero's adventures, differing significantly from the versions released on other consoles. This side-scrolling platformer presents a unique gameplay structure where players must collect puzzle pieces scattered throughout the levels. These pieces are essential for unlocking the final stage, adding a collection and exploration element to the traditional platforming action.

Players control Darkwing Duck as he navigates through four distinct levels, each featuring a boss character pulled directly from the animated series. Unlike other versions of the game, the TurboGrafx-16 iteration focuses primarily on jumping as the main form of attack, with Darkwing defeating enemies by bouncing on their heads. He also has access to a gas gun, but its use is limited by the availability of gas pellets found throughout the levels. These pellets come in different varieties, each with unique effects on enemies, such as confusion, sleep, or knockout gas.

The game also incorporates a time limit within each level, adding a sense of urgency to the gameplay. If players linger for too long, a falling safe will appear and crush Darkwing, resulting in a game over. This feature encourages players to maintain momentum and efficiently navigate the levels. While it offers a different experience compared to other versions of Darkwing Duck, the TurboGrafx-16 game provides a unique and challenging platforming experience with its focus on puzzle-solving, jumping attacks, and time-based challenges.
