I’m a sucker for a good turn-based cover shooter, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for the hours and hours of micromanagement and squad-building that games like XCOM demand from you.

Day Of The Shell offers a solution to this issue, by providing a slick cover shooter in the form of a roguelite that you can play in short bursts. It may not have squad-based tactics, but the whole ‘army of one’ vibe is fun in it’s own way.

Like most roguelites and tactical games, DOTS is fun when everything is going well but it’s even more fun when it all goes to hell and you’re fighting against seemingly impossible odds.

I also like the fact that you can play the whole thing with one button (left mouse button, obviously). Hopefully this means that Gamepad support and console ports won’t be difficult (if/when it ever happens).
