It’s been a really interesting year for indie games, and it’s been a real privilege to be able to feature some of those games on my humble lil’ channel.

Last year I made some montages to cap off the year, and I had so much fun making them that I’ve decided to make it an annual tradition. So this is a montage (just one this year) of all the 2024 releases that I’ve featured on my channel, plus some ‘bonus footage’ of a few games that I didn’t do proper videos for. I’m also bending the rules by including games that entered Early Access (such as Aero GPX), games that left Early Access (such as Between The Stars), and even games that just had a standalone ‘prologue’ released this year (such as Kriegsfront Tactics).

I also wanted to continue the tradition of pairing the footage with one of my favourite new songs from the year… but this is where it gets complicated. You see, my favourite ‘new’ song of 2024 was one that I would not normally associate with a fun, upbeat videogame montage. When I listened to it earlier in the year I thought “This song won’t fit the montage”, but then something clicked in the mad scientist part of my brain and I thought “What if I changed the montage to fit the song?”… and the more I experimented with the idea, the more I realised that all of the footage I had was actually a perfect fit.

So that’s how a project that began as a light-hearted sizzle reel turned into some weird parable about loss, grief and forgiveness. It’s much more emotional and slow-paced than what I originally intended, but I think the result speaks for itself. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it, and I hope you also find it to be a fitting tribute to the amazing and memorable indie game releases that we’ve had this year.
