So here’s a demo I discovered through Boomstock, a Steam event focusing on ‘Boomer Shooters’ and other game genres inspired by the ‘90s.

This game clearly takes Duke Nukem 3D as it’s main inspiration, but to me the overall look and feel of the game was pretty close to Nightdive’s recent remaster of Turok 3 (in a good way). It also includes a bunch of references to other games, movies and TV shows, including a sneaky Simpsons reference that I made sure to highlight in this video.

I played this on PC with a gamepad (yeah I know, I know), and thankfully there’s a generous auto-aim option to facilitate that. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the auto-aim will usually lock on to the head or chest, but will also lock on to groins if you aim that way. I thought this was a hilarious addition, and not just because it reminded me of a certain South Park episode…

I don’t know if it came through in the video, but I might have had a little too much fun with this demo. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for the full game!
