On 16 July 1968, exactly 50 years ago, the Development Bank of Singapore was born to finance Singapore’s industrialisation. Our pioneering team was a small band from Singapore’s Economic Development Board.

In the early years, we funded fledgling industries from manufacturing to shipbuilding, developed property and hotels, and brought new innovations to market. Do you know Yaohan came to Singapore because one of our founding fathers went to Japan in search of an anchor tenant for Plaza Singapura, which we developed and built? Or that DBS built what was once the world’s tallest hotel, Westin Stamford? We also helped take our iconic Singapore brands Singapore Airlines and Singtel public.

It’s been an amazing 50 years. As we celebrate our past, we are also excited for what lies ahead. Thank you for supporting us through the years. Let’s spark the future together!
