33rd place this week. It's fundamentally a luck game with score items but the 4 x 5000 point items are hidden, so you need to know their locations. Stage 1 is easy as it's hidden in the safe but they're harder to find with no obvious tells to their whereabouts in the other stages. Luckily I've played this a bit in the past & knew where to hunt. Pressing the B button at their spot will kick them & make them appear. All other item drops are random but they're fairly consistent & are usually 500 or 1000, so no insane variance to deal with
You need to play as a speedrun but also having a route that will let you get as many items as possible should a score item drop. The st.3 boss is ridiculous & has a ton of health, so you need time to defeat him in order to reach stage 4 & get the last 5K item. ANy other earning in that stage is a bonus
It should be noted that the special weapons are all shit. They all give less score than the default gun. The revolver has unlimited ammo so it's a disaster if you pick that up. You need an automatic to drop in order to get rid of it. It's OK for a little while as basic enemies are low scoring but it has a slow rate of fire & if a boss appears, say goodbye to half your score. The shotgun gives about one quarter of the default score but is good at clearing out areas. Still shit if you want score though. The machine gun is just the default gun with autofire but again, less score
Anyway, my goal was to get 90K & I was the 1st person on PSN to do that. CLobta overtook me at some point so I went back & grinded out a bit more but ultimately EIYO575 won with 95,130. I want to say my theoretical best play would have been over 97K but the st.3 boss was having none of it & I died to his helpers.
