Dead Lantern Pictures Archives: OUTPOST DOOM (2008)
Shot in 2007, this story was birthed by Steve and I in my Grandma's basement over the Fourth of July. Our primary goal was to just level-up our filmmaking skills from THE GRAND HORROR and see if we can make something "better". Shots were actually planned out and thought went into making it more "professional". We shot it in color, meticulously color-graded it, and then I decided to change it to black and white. I wanted to do an Agatha Christie type murder mystery with monsters in an homage to the classical Universal and Val Lewton RKO films of the 30s and 40s. When we took it to conventions, old people liked it, young people didn't (where's all the blood and boobs??!!). This is still one of my favorite films I've made. It cost like $500 and allowed my friends and I to hang out in a dirty barn for 10 weekends. What's not to like? - Mathew Kister (Director)
