Deadly Premonition holds a special place in my heart. I don't think there is any other game out there that I both love and hate as much as this game. Some parts I think are absolutely brilliant and so good that they HAVE to be experienced and other parts are so tedious and repetitive that it is true agony to play it.

And that is pretty much how Deadly Premonition stands overall with the audience in the world. You either love it or you hate it. The game is so weird and absurd that there is no in between. For me it is almost as if I love everything about this game, except the gameplay. Though that is technically not correct since I love the exploration of the town very fun and chill. It's mostly the action sequences where you encounter zombies that are really, really, really, REALLY boring and repetitive that I disliked. Originally the game's director SWERY also did not want action sequences in the game and I think the game would have been better without them. The game simply is not fun during those sections and though some sequences don't last too long, they do appear more frequent as you progress through the game.

Where the game shines is it's story, world and above all else, characters. We follow Special FBI Agent Francis York Morgan. But call him York, that's what everyone calls him. We are sent to a small town in the Northwest Pacific to investigate a murder that is linked to earlier investigations. As we arrive in the town we get introduced to a whole bunch of colorful characters and the plot takes unexpected twists and turns around every corner. It is a true delight to see how crazy the story gets and where it takes you. The setting and feel of the game and story take heavy inspiration from Twin Peaks.

I just love and adore how quirky the game gets with York being so impressed by a biscuit while they talk about a gruesome murder scene or how he is fascinated with the shape that the milk makes when he pours it in his coffee. There is truly no other game out there with this kind of writing and humor. It had me laugh out loud multiple times throughout the playthrough. At times this game will have you fall madly in love with it and at other times this game makes you want to separate with it once and for all. I hope that someday we get a remake or a version without the zombie sequences, because I truly was not enjoying myself during those moments. The story is good enough to warrant me slugging through those sections, but they just did not add anything enjoyable to the overall experience.

But all in all I think this game is awesome and would not want to miss it for anything in the world. I love this game....though it is tough love that I have to give here.
