Demonstration - Planet X3 with the IBM PC/XT
Here I am demonstrating 8-bit Guy's new(ish) commercial game for the IBM PC platform. This is being played on my IBM PC/XT with a new-style IBM CGA card and a 4,77MHz 8088 CPU. I am capturing via composite to show off the composite artifact colors, easily the most colorful mode that CGA can display in this mode. The music is from the PC Speaker, even though I could have installed an Adlib,
I decided to show as much of the game as I could with one map. I show how resources are gathered, buildings and units are built, defense is established and how the map can be won. I chose the easy mode to keep the video to reasonable length.
The music is off by default when PC Speaker is selected as the music source. The PC Speaker is used for sound effects regardless of the music source selected. At 11:34 in the video I turn the music on for one rendition of the level's theme.
I captured this video with a GV-USB2 capture card for the video and and alligator leads connected from my PC Speaker's wire and the case ground to my sound card's line in. The original resolution was 720x480 and I doubled it to 1440 (bilinear) x 960 (nearest neighbor) and added vertical borders for 1080p/60fps.
