Densetsu no Starfy 10/3/24 stream - checking this game out for fun.
Nintendo added this series of three games on the GBA onto Switch Online so I decided to check the first one out.
This game was actually pretty fun. Very simple but it was engaging enough to want to keep playing. I wasn't sure if I was gonna be able to get much out of it since it's not translated, but if you have a brain and you've been playing video games all your life like I have, it's not hard to understand what's going on with the story or gameplay at all.
The controls are actually some of the best platforming controls I've ever seen. Everything was very tight and responsive. The only issues I had was it took a bit to get used to hold A to swim and holding B to run on land. Some of the land sections I had a difficult time trying to jump and attack at the same time, but that's probably why they put attack on X as well now that I put more thought into it. The other issue I had is split second button presses didn't register at all so I died to bosses a few times because of that but not a huge deal. This issue is like a gaming in general issue though. Split second reactions are mostly never registered from my experience.
The music was okay. I wasn't super into any of the songs, but none of them were completely terrible either.
I don't understand why they wouldn't export this game/series to other countries. It feels like something that would be right up there with any of the Mario or Kirby games. I really wish Japanese developers and whoever decides to export would really stop worrying about whether or not games will do well in other countries. I understand it costs money to translate etc., but there's probably so many games/other forms of entertainment that could've blown up and been huge in other countries if they would take more chances. But I'm just some random guy on the internet, what do I know right!
I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to this game in the future and checking out the chests portion. I'm guessing you just replay all the levels and can go in the doors and use the power ups in the areas they were missing in the first time through.
