DEPTHMAP NEXT (Quake III Machinima)
DEPTHMAP NEXT is an experimental and expressionistic take on the game Quake III Arena (1999) and aims to explore both new and familiar paths within the game through the aid of grainy and sinister looking Depth of Field maps.
This second installment is a direct sequel to the original 'DEPTHMAP' (released in late 2019) and emphasizes the use of third-person chase footage, experimental camera movement, fluent slow-motion, longer runtime, a look-and-feel with a higher sense of depth and a technological extension towards layering and inversion by combining the original footage and its corresponding depth of field map altogether.
'DEPTHMAP' (2019) and 'DEPTHMAP NEXT' (2020) purposefully shed new perspectives on a timeless classic, push the bar towards its cinematic representation and change existing associations originally taken for granted.
