I will start by saying this video is "short" clips of different modes (minus "wars", as it is shown after the "Rules" movie), ending with the credits. I must say that this game is great, but I did not spend much time with it, and as such, I am not very good, though I can beat the CPU easy enough...I "get" it when the rules are explained, but having played "traditional" puzzle games for so long, my brain would need more time to understand the confined spaces and moving the dice for the appropriate chains, etc...but it is much better than "ROX" was...I need to put in the proper descriptions for a couple of other videos, but these past couple of weeks have been a little hectic, with work being done on my car, starting a new second job and doing training this week, still trying to get my fitness and lifting in, all while things are a bit out of whack. When I get my REAL schedule for my second job (that is "flat", Monday - Friday) and get my car back and the dust settles, things should be consistent and I can have a bit more wiggle room here and there!

At any rate, Devil Dice is one of the only games developed using "Net Yaroze" that actually became a commercial game, and it was a commercial success and is part of a series, with Devil Dice (known as "XI [sai]" in Japan) being the first game in the series. In Japan, a PS1 sequel/upgrade known as XI [sai] Jumbo was made, that features a "Jumbo" mode and a bit of a different graphical interface, among a couple of other things. Jumbo was never released outside of Japan...however, we did get another game for the PS2, known as "Bombastic" in North America and Europe (and "XI Go" in Japan). You can read more about the Net Yaroze at:

Really quick, the game has a manual that explains all the rules, but the idea is to match dice with their corresponding number plus the number of dice...basically if you see a dice with a two on it, you must move Aqui (the little devil) around until your two touches the other two and they vanish...if it is a five, for example, five "5s" must be touching each other to vanish. You can chain if you match dice with disappearing dice you just put together...so if you eliminated two "2s", as they are sinking, if you move Aqui and put another 2 next to them, that starts a chain...and you keep doing it as much as you can.

The game is a smooth 60FPS, but the game had funky scanlines when using my PS3 (it is the HDMI and the game's original resolution, blah blah blah...), so I actually put the game CD in my PC and recorded the game using FRAPS and a "tool". The game has multiple modes that make for a good puzzler, honestly..."Wars" mode to fight a bunch of people at once by matching dice and bumping people out of the match, a one-on-one battle mode where it is kind of a "turf war" where you keep matching dice until one of you completes your set first, a "puzzle" mode where you match dice using as few moves as possible and you can only move a set number of steps, and the typical endless mode and such...the game also has some cool music. There isn't really anything I can fault the game for.
