Lychnis [리크니스] Game Sample - PC/DOS
Lychnis is a fairly simple, classic Action/Platformer for DOS that specializes in smooth scrolling and challenging platforming with neat music, hidden treasures (some only accessible by a particular character) and upgradeable weapons, armors, and health. Title character Lychnis can jump off of walls and utilize close-range combat while the secondary character, Iris, can double jump and use ranged attacks.
In order to upgrade your character, you have to find the "Shop" icon hidden throughout the levels while earning gold by defeating enemies or through other means... just be careful, as thieves sometimes lurk in boxes who steal 100 gold if you get hit by them. The game has a particularly steep difficulty due to a few choice decisions (knockback from hits, falling straight down when walking off a ledge but not while running, tricky enemy placement, no passwords, etc.) and only one boss (fought in a semi-JRPG fashion with an ATB gauge of sorts) but is serviceable overall.
What's cool about this particular title is that it's the first title Korean-developer "Softmax" participated in, followed by their popular "War of Genesis" franchise. In the West, they are best known for their "Magna Carta" video games. This game crashes for me a lot unless I turn off the sound effects, so for this reason, I only cover the first level.
