Here we fight Vergil as Dante. Vergil retains moves from all of the series for this fight and yes, that even includes DmC. It's just about the only thing this game takes form DmC and frankly, it's the best thing it could have considering Vergil's fight was the best part of that game. And using it to give him access to more abilities is always good.

Vergil fights similarly to how he does in DMC3, such as using Rapid Slash, parrying your attacks, blocking your guns, using Judgement Cut, and generally teleporting all around you. He even has a shortened version of the Helm Splitter combo where he will finish up with either a Rapid Slash or a Stinger after two Helm Splitters. If Vergil lands Stinger on Dante, there will be a cinematic close up where he says "Just like old times" as the animation is exactly the same as when he stabs Dante in DMC3 during their first fight.

At about halfway his attacks will get more fierce and he'll begin using Judgement Cut End, his strongest attack from DMC4:SE that was originally only done by the player. Luckily, Vergil takes a while to charge it up so you can get outside of his range to avoid it. The effects on the attack are awesome looking and literally warps reality. But after the attack he's wide open and easy to punish. He can also now use Summoned Swords to encircle Dante as he performs other actions.

He can activate his Devil Trigger whenever he takes too much damage or if enough time passes, where he will regain some HP and go on the offensive even harder than before. He also has his own Sin Devil Trigger, where he will charge up and then take flight around the arena, attempting to divebomb Dante as Summoned Swords encircle him. Not too hard to avoid so long as you don't let the swords intimidate you.

As his HP lowers, Vergil can also make a doppelganger of himself just like he does in DmC. This clone of his will attack in conjunction with him, which can really pile on the pressure. Luckily, you can destroy the clone by hitting it enough to cause it to disappear and I highly recommend doing this.

All in all, really fun boss fight. And this is basically the final boss. Sure, we have one more boss battle after this, but it's actually easier than this one. So consider this the real final boss and the next is just a victory lap.
