Dex: Enhanced Edition Part 1
0This game is part adventure and part action. The story is great until it goes all anime preachy at the end. The story honestly takes an awful nose dive in the final 10 minutes and pretends as though it's espousing clever philosophy without really ever coming to a conclusion and that is my biggest let down. I love a good cyberpunk story and this game had it in spades. The setting of the game is great for the most part, the main story and side quests are engaging. The game is open and you can go just about anywhere without having to unlock areas which makes the world fun to explore. As you progress and level up you gain abilities that allow you to go places you previously couldn't which is always satisfying. You meet interesting people and uncover interesting mysteries that build a cool and complex story. The combat is almost bad and seems like an after thought. You throw punches and block at the speed of a sloth and the dodge button is mapped to the right thumb stick and not re-bindable. Fortunately enemies give fair warning for an unblockable attack, but having the dodge on an actual button would have made the game so much better. There are a variety of guns you can use in the game, but again you are so slow to do any sort of combat it's not worth exploring. It takes forever to draw your gun and shoot that it never honestly feels like a worthwhile option. The hacking even adds a twin stick shooter to the game which is a nice change of pace. The music is great and there are so many freaking lovely tracks. Just about every screen transition there is new music and all of it fits the mood. The pixel oriented graphics and the painted cutscenes are lovely. This is a fun game, but does have its drawbacks. Maybe I'm a sucker for this kind of setting, but this is genuinely worth the time and effort. Enjoy my blond playthrough.
