This stage was surprisingly difficult!

Rude is one of the characters I've been looking forward to the most, specifically because of how well he works with Freya. However, this stage was not the best showcase of their potential, as it really, REALLY didn't want me to use Freya, and they use HP attacks REALLY frequently so Rude's overheal HP to BRV conversion doesn't get used quite as well as it could be. It was ranged resist again, three enemies, and they can all cleanse debuffs and get debuff immunity with the red mask, so I had difficulty using an Imperil character or Vivi. I ended up just brute forcing it with battery again like with Ciaran to get around the ranged resist somewhat. It felt like I had to rely on RNG a bit too with who the enemies decide to target, especially since they seem immune to Lock even without the red mask. They do massive batteries with all of their HP attacks so you need to have a way to handle your characters getting targeted multiple times in a row. Freya and Rude are stacking a load of Max HP auras though so that really helped out (it's so funny seeing Freya with such high HP off synergy lol), along with Freya's Last Stand adding even more leeway. And of course Ardyn is immortal.

The main gimmick is that BRV Breaking the enemies makes them change their mask. If they act with the Red Mask on, they seem to dispel the target, which is very annoying, so be careful of that. The Yellow Mask allows them to heal themselves as well so you need to minimise the amount of times they get that on their turn. The best case scenario is to keep them on the White Mask on their turn. There seems to be other scenarios where they can change the mask though which I don't fully understand, I think it's HP thresholds or something.

Ardyn was really helpful for controlling the masks, he made it so that they didn't get too many turns on the yellow masks so they don't heal too much and negate our damage progress. However it was really annoying to deal with and made the run really tight on the turn count. Towards the end though, we started getting a lot of launches so that helped pick up the pace. I did "clear" the stage before this run but it was over the turn count. That really took the wind out of my sails and I had to give up on getting an early upload to do Christmas stuff (a bit weird releasing this on Christmas Eve but it's done now), but I came back with a vengeance and optimised the run to make turn count.

Reno's Lufenia was supposed to be one of the three "hell Lufenia", but I actually found that one pretty easy as Freya actually countered the main mechanic of that stage. However, I guess this stage being surprisingly difficult makes up for it, haha. It wasn't as bad as Sephiroth and Ciaran Lufenia though, as the Orb itself is a non-issue here since you can pause it easily. This fight is just overly gimmicky IMO, not the biggest fan of it, but at least it was something different.

I'm surprised I ended up using Ardyn again, that's three stages in a row for him, and I've really been enjoying using him. Perhaps he will become a mainstay along with Rude? I started DFFOO JP and he's getting his LD Board there soon, so I'm thinking I might pull for him there since he's been such an MVP for me in Global!

Thankfully, there are no more ranged resist stages for a while and they start laying off the three enemy waves, so Freya and Rude should be putting in some awesome work in future stages. Until then though, I will enjoy a needed break from all of this Lufenia content for the Christmas, and I hope all of you watching/reading this also have lovely Christmas!

Also, little fun fact - Freya is canonically one inch taller than Rude, lol. Zidane wasn't joking when he said she'd sure gotten big!
