DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #18 - Soaring Flames COMPLETE (Boss Rush #1)
A fun new twist on the Lufenia formula with the debut of Boss Rush!
These events will be cool as I get to show off teams without Freya in the party but can also use her in one of them to show what she can do too.
First party featured Firion, Gladio, and Gau, who are all definitely top tier in Boss Rush. Since free turns like what Lightning gets still tick the Boss Rush turn counter of 50 turns, off turn damage from launches and counters are your best friend here, and all three of these characters counter, are highly defensive, and keep each other topped up on BRV and healthy. I also have Firion BT now, so that helped, as Burst phases and Summon Phases do not tick the Boss Rush counter.
There wasn't much intricate strategy here at all with either team, a lot of just pushing buttons, though we do want to let the enemy take as many turns as possible with the first team to get more counters in. I could have played a little more optimally but I still did better with the first team than I thought. I didn't expect to be able to defeat Wave 2 without the second team coming in but they lasted a few turns into the third wave.
Second team of Freya, Lightning, and Dark Knight Cecil, were perfectly equipped to make the last wave a joke. I was actually worried about using Freya and Dark Knight Cecil together, as I thought Freya would heal him too much with her HP Regen so he couldn't use the upgraded variants of his skills. But in fact she's actually perfect with him. Just don't equip any "Greater Rejuvenate" summon passives to Cecil and use his AA after using his LD and he will be ready to go with his upgraded skills immediately, and from that point on, Freya's HP Regen will come just short of healing him over 50% as you spam skills with Cecil. This is a perfect situation for him as she will always keep him above 20% HP for his personal Last Stand effect to always be ready, but just below 50% HP so he can do as much damage as possible. Then Freya provides her party wide 50% HP Last Stand to herself and the third party member. This actually came in handy this fight when the enemy got a double turn and attacked Lightning after the Curaga, which would have destroyed her without Freya being there. Freya also works well with launchers because of her battery and Cecil batteries her back too, and we can get more consistent damage with High Jump from his HP Damage Up debuff which in turn means better BRV refunds from Freya (though I didn't really showcase that here as we just had to spam skills here). Lightning did a lot of damage while keeping the enemy pushed back to set up for launches, so this was a cake walk.
I was originally unsure if I wanted to include Boss Rush stages in the Freya Lufenia Saga and use them as an excuse to take a break from having to get a timely recording out, but I had fun with this so I will continue to incorporate them.
This saga is about to get more interesting though, as next time, Freya receives an upgrade! She will be getting her Lv. 80 Awakening, and we will be seeing the debut of LD Call Abilities. This means Freya will have access to two more skills from now on as well as better stats, so it will be fun to experiment with how I can increase her utility or buff her up. Makes up for the fact we will probably be waiting forever for her actual LD, just a bit, haha.
