DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #62 - Act 3, Chapter 4, Part 2 COMPLETE (End of an Era)
So that's it. Took Freya through like 95% of the Lufenia Era. I unfortunately was struggling a lot with Xande Lufenia, so I skipped it for now, maybe I will go back and do it with Vivi. But this saga was still beyond my wildest expectations! I knew she was underrated, but I thought things would be over by the time Act 3 started and I'd have to bench her for almost two years, but look at her now!
And what a fitting way to finish the Lufenia era, in the same way I started it - Freya, Vivi, and WoL! And it happens to be an FFIX chapter too!
For the stage itself, it was a bit tricky. My main issue was the constant dispels from Maelstrom causing Freya's HP Regen buffs to not get a lot of time up, combined with the Heat debuff that takes so much HP and can fail the HP requirement on you if you're not careful. But I figured out my way around it.
For the first wave, I can just take it slow, save Vivi's Doomsdays for the second wave as you need it for the Orb and you generally just don't want to give these guys much of an inch, so it's better to keep most of Vivi's big damage for the second wave. Then open the second wave with a Doomsday to easily get by the first Orb, and don't refresh it when it runs out as it's not needed for the non-Orb phase. After that, I call in the CoD friend over Freya as soon as I can before a Maelstrom can go off, and use WoL's BT to start pushing them back. However, CoD did lose HP to a Heat debuff, though WoL was able to partially heal it back with his EX, so I was still safe for the HP requirement. Using high/instant turn rates skills in the summon also helped create a lot of space for me to go crazy on them and melt as much HP as possible. I used Vivi's second Doomsday when the HP shields show up to easily melt through them, and from there it's just rushing them down, refreshing Doomsday when it runs out again and trying to keep buffs up when they get turns and dispel me again. I saved Rude LDCA for the end so I could make sure I was healed.
With the Lufenia era done, I will very likely not do anymore GL videos for the foreseeable future, with the possible exception of DE Transcendence. I may see if I can do Pandemonium with Freya, but the truth is I've been really fatigued with the game for a while, especially since Freya's LD release in JP caused me to have to do lots of farming there to make sure I was ready. I know some JP players continued using Freya in a number of Lufenia+ stages but I don't know if I personally will be able to keep it up with any consistency. And my time spent in this game has caused my ability to work on other personal projects or even to just enjoy other media to be hindered due to lack of time. I will probably still upload videos on JP though, since the runs are shorter and I really am enjoying Freya's LD, and I treat my JP account more casually anyway. I already have a few videos up, and I have some more ideas too.
Thank you to everyone who stuck around for this silly little saga and at the very least, I hope it encourages players not to give up on their favourite characters and to keep using them even if you're told they can't be used. I also hope that all of these descriptions and comments have helped people learn some of the intricacies of the game as they watched the runs!
Just 8 months until she gets her LD in GL now...time to hibernate haha!
Also, this of course won't be the end of me doing stuff in tribute to this character. It was a nice stepping stone to get my feet wet, making myself commit to something and following through as best as I can, but I have much more interesting Freya tribute projects I want to release in the future. I don't know when I can have anything substantial, but hopefully those find their way to those who would like them one day. Don't forget her!
