"Dick Tracy," developed by Sega in the mid-1990s, draws inspiration from the popular 1989 movie of the same name, offering a straightforward yet somewhat lacking gaming experience. The game follows the adventures of Dick Tracy as he pursues leads on Big Boy's organized crime syndicate. However, the title does not delve into complex mystery-solving elements.

The gameplay revolves around using three buttons. One button fires Tracy's standard Tommy gun, which functions like Mega Man's bullets. The second button enables Tracy to punch in close combat, while the third controls a machine gun used exclusively against background enemies who can't be engaged directly.

Enemies constantly rush and fire at Tracy, requiring players to shoot them down. Occasionally, foes emerge from doors, cars, and background windows to launch attacks, adding an element of challenge. However, the game's mechanics are far from deep or intricate.

The game's concept of battling both foreground and background enemies is interesting, but its execution falls short. It provides initial enjoyment, but the repetitive nature of the encounters diminishes the fun factor rapidly.

The game's controls leave room for improvement, particularly regarding Tracy's agility and the responsiveness of his standard gun. Graphics are simple and lack the detail that could have enriched the experience. Character design, however, is fairly faithful to the source material.

Despite some redeeming qualities, such as bonus rounds, "Dick Tracy" struggles to maintain player interest due to its repetitiveness and lack of depth. While it serves as a reflex test, it falls short in terms of overall gaming experience, making it a less appealing choice compared to other titles available on the Sega Genesis.
