The original Dune Books, along with Lord of the Rings, are my favorite series of fiction novels, & I'm a big fan of the films and TV series too, so in this video I try to answer the question about whether Dune Awakening matches my expectations, did Funcom get Dune Awakening Right?
I'm happy to say that at least so far, yes they have. If perhaps Frank Herbert's Books are important to you, especially the story, then the plot of Dune Awakening fits very nicely into the Dune Universe. The game doesn't take place exactly during the events of the books, but the devs & writers have positioned the story in a very clever and subtle way that I think will be more than satisfactory and acceptable to the fan base.
The treatment of technology, the challenges of surviving in Arrakis, the aesthetic of the planet, caves, buildings & structures all are faithful enough to the new Villeneuve films and what I imagine in my minds eye from reading the books.
Dune Awakening is a story based multi player open-world adventure survival RPG & I'd liken your game characters initial situation to be similar to what Gurney Halleck's must have been after the first Battle of Arakeen, when the Atreides Forces were defeated & Gurney was forced to retreat to the desert & survive amongst the smugglers of Arrakis.
In summary then, I think that if Dune is close to your heart, Dune Awakening the game, will not disappoint, & I'm looking forward to playing much more of it.
Please note that I received a key for Dune Awakening & a Private Server from Funcom & Nitrado to help with this video.
