What in the world is going on? Episode 1 and 2 are good no doubt, I loved the way they started with addressing the 1959 Siberian incident but placing it in Kazakhstan, not a big deal and the Ion dragon does expand the monster list in a good way but in episode 3, are they just gonna butcher our boy? Are they just going to act like the first titan Godzilla fought in the modern timeline didn’t even exist? This is just outrageous, I mean the source material is right there, Shinomura is the reason why Serizawa exists in the first place.
In not doing so, they also destroyed a very valuable series of events that would link one of the most beloved characters, Ishiro Serizawa with the Godzilla story. As we know there is a strong Shinomura Serizawa connection. Meaning his father, Eiji Serizawa, was one of the first to ever witness a titan in real life, after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. This led to him joining the task force to hunt down the Shinomura creature and then lure it and Godzilla to the bikini atolls to destroy them both with the Castle Bravo nuke. He would later on pass his knowledge to his son Ishiro serizawa who would join Lee Shaw under Monarch. So, without the Shinomura, there is no Serizawa and hence they would have to redefine the character’s backstory from ground up.
We love the medium sized monsters. the intricate design and appearance on screen but what the fans have always wanted was an actual Titan and not just minor superspecies. Of course, we can classify titans as creatures with great power over the surroundings, as having a great influence and not just monsters of massive size. But that is a bit confusing to the layman which is the general audience who wants Big Monster. OF course we will get that in GxK the new empire but this is such a loss of opportunity to actually cement the timeline of the Monsterverse and not actually confuse us with new stories that contradict the existing lore.
