15,246This is the first time that we actually hear confirmation of Hector being Barbossa’s first name. The writers didn’t give him a first name prior to this movie, but there was a line in the first Pirates movie where Jack jokingly says that his name is Hector. Thanks to some of the fans misinterpreting this as fact, the writers felt like they had no choice but to include it in the franchise as his official first name. Another tie to the original film comes when Davy Jones mentions Calypso to be a heathen god. Barbossa is actually the first person to introduce us to the theory of heathen gods as characters in the universe back in The Curse of the Black Pearl.
