The kills that pushed the NC-17 rating to the max took a lot of creativity to pull off. The most complex kill scene was Allie’s in the bedroom. In the scene where Allie’s mother finds Art mutilating Allie, Leone actually built a life size animatronic dummy of Allie, and the entire room was a built set. Operators used rods under the bed, and rubber gloves were used with tubing in her chest that gave the illusion of breathing. Leone has also admitted that he had to use digital effects for only a few certain scenes. When Ricky gets killed, the actor’s face had to be digitally put onto a fake head, and digital effects were used during the bedroom scene as well. Leone put the actress’ real eyeballs on the dummy so we could see her wake up.
