4,875The role of Phil made some interesting changes throughout production. Originally, Danny DeVito declined to actually audition for the part, so they ended up having multiple other big name actors audition for the part. Eventually, one of the actors joked about how he felt they were just going to give the part to Danny. After a pasta lunch with Danny, he eventually signed on. Phil also has a line that was used for most of the trailers where he says, “Don’t let your guard down because of a pair of big goo-goo eyes!” Originally, he says a pair of big, blue eyes, but once the scene was put in color, Meg’s eyes were in fact purple, so they re-recorded the line. Oddly enough, Megara is actually a merge between all four of Hercules’ mythological wives.
