0The screenwriters, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, had a sense of humor when it came to naming some of their characters. For instance, Robert Darden is the name of their writing professor that they had in university. They even met in his class. Robert Darden is also the name of the first target that Wesley gets. They’ve also used the name Darden for the first victim in quite a few of their movies, such as 3:10 to Yuma and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Morgan Freeman’s character is named Sloan, and this is the name of their university’s former president who was convinced to step down by faculty and alumni. Also, James Mcavoy auditioned for the role in early 2006, but he was rejected because they wanted a more conventional leading man. After reconsidering the character, they decided that they wanted a more geeky, runt of the litter kind of actor, and they got back in touch with James.
