Have you been hit by homing missiles every time you've used a power up or honked the horn? If you have, then this is the reason why.

And if that's not bad enough, the AIs also cheat by using a blue balloon power up, even though there are NO blue balloons in certain tracks, such as Crescent Island and Haunted Woods. The red balloon code was on when it happened.

The AIs even cheat by driving through an oil slick, a mine, or a bubble and not be effected off-screen. Same thing happens in Boulder Canyon when you raise the bridge on them. They just drive right though.
