Didier Drogba almost signed for THIS Yorkshire club!
What if Didier Drogba signed for Sheffield United?
Once again, the ballad of the January transfer window nears its end. Money has been splashed, players and managers have changed hands and only in time can it be analysed.
Speaking of transfer windows, we’ve got five final alternate transfer universes of past and present.
Gabriel Jesus has set Arsenal alight and has prompted a title challenge in Mikel Arteta’s resurgent Gunners team. However, Arsenal have been mightily close to securing other attacking signatures in the previous 12 months.
Without the lustre of Champions League football, they missed out on Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic in the January window of 2022. The Serb instead opted to remain in Serie A, but with Juventus.
There were also rumours of Arsenal embroiling themselves in a race alongside many for the wantaway Everton striker Richarlison. The newly appointed Brazil #9, however, went to what Arsenal fans would label ‘the wrong part of North London’, and to Spurs.
The second half of this week, we’ll take a dive into more classic transfers. Like the time Neil Warnock almost signed Didier Drogba for £100,000 whilst at Sheffield United. Or, when Roy Keane’s Nottingham Forest were relegated and a release clause of £3.75m was met by Blackburn Rovers, only for Manchester United to swoop in at the eleventh hour.
Most gallingly there was the time David de Gea’s transfer to Real Madrid in 2015 allegedly was halted thanks to a broken fax machine. We’ll cover them all this week.
