This panel was part of the official stream for Digital Tabletop Fest 4: Roll of the Dice.
Subverting expectations presents a unique and fun challenge for game designers to surprise their players, delight them, and keep them interested. In tabletop inspired games, usually, the higher the roll, the better the outcome, right? But sometimes, ‘failing’ a roll is the much more interesting option.
This panel brings together games where low numbers are just as good (or interesting) as high ones, and how a ‘bad’ roll can lead to a more narratively diverse game.
