Two morning radio DJs in Florida were suspended for a prank in which they said "dihydrogen monoxide" was in the water supply and coming out of the drains.

If you don't know what two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen make, get out.

It seems the DJs have since been restored, but it's unclear if Val St. John and Scott Fish are still facing FELONY charges for making a "false call" about the water supply. Listeners were so outraged the majority of them even said the pair should return "never" on a poll on the radio station's website.

This is ridiculous. The joke obviously plays upon the public's scientific illiteracy, but it is usually understood not too long afterward. Should two people be suspended and face charges because people are angry about realizing how ignorant and quick to anger they were? Does this mean there's little hope of the public understanding basic science?
