Discovered Planet Super Venus by James Webb GJ 1214 b
GJ 1214 b has recently been reclassified as a “super-Venus”! Previously thought to be a mini-Neptune or a super-Earth with a water-rich atmosphere, new observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have revealed that its atmosphere is actually rich in carbon dioxide (CO₂), similar to that of Venus.
This discovery is significant because it challenges our understanding of planetary formation and evolution. GJ 1214 b’s atmosphere is dense and hazy, making direct observation of its surface difficult. The presence of CO₂ in high concentrations suggests that it is a hot and sweltering world, much like Venus, but on a larger scale.
