Discovery of planets orbiting Barnard's Star
Barnard's Star is a red dwarf located in the constellation Ophiuchus, about 5.96 light-years from Earth, making it the fourth closest star to our Solar System. Despite its proximity, it is too faint to be seen with the naked eye. Discovered in 1916 by astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard, it is known for its extremely rapid proper motion relative to other stars.
Recently, astronomers have confirmed the existence of four small planets orbiting Barnard's Star. These planets, classified as sub-Earths, have masses ranging from 19% to 34% of Earth's mass. However, due to their proximity to the star, their surfaces are probably too hot to be habitable.
