I am disguising my opening and review of Dishonored 2 Collector's Edition as an episode of New Release Friday because I am way too caught up in playing it to possibly download and play a different game this week. Sorry, I am a lazy piece of shit, but I promise next week will be back to the usual NRF platform. That being said, this should totally still count as a New Release Friday, because it is a new game and I am kinda reviewing it... I just won't be covering any of the gameplay aspects, haha.

Anyway, moving onto the actual review of all the goodies that came with the collector’s edition. For $99.99 you received a copy of Dishonored 2, bonus in-game goodies (which I won’t be using on my first playthrough,) a steel collectable game case, a replica of Corvo’s mask and a display stand for it, a replica of Emily and Corvo’s Signet ring in a jewelry case, a double-sided propaganda poster, a decal, all packaged in a high-quality box. Considering AAA titles cost $60 dollars as it is, paying $40 for everything else that came in the package was an absolute no-brainer. Even if the Collector’s Edition was $100 in ADDITION to the $60 copy of Dishonored 2, I feel that it still would have been worth it. This is obviously up to interpretation, dependent on how much you like the series. I fucking love it, so there is that.

It’s not often that an unbox video will feature a review of the box itself, but holy shit man. The box is super sturdy, has embossed and colored portraits of Emily, Corvo, and the mark of the outsider on it, a clear plastic display window, and a glossy outer sleeve that features wanted posters of both of the protagonists. The inner plastic that holds all of the pieces in place is kind of meh, but realistically speaking I don’t think I would use it for display purposes anyway. That is one of the bummers actually is that the box is so nice, but the display stand just makes you never want to put the mask back in the box.

Corvo’s mask is a stable of the Dishonored series. It is immediately recognizable by anyone who has ever even heard of the series. The replica is just as recognizable as it is stupidly accurate and well-made for being an acrylic, mass-produced model. All of the parts are individually made and pieced together by (what I assume to be) hand and are finished in a way that properly depicts the masks patina and craftsmanship. That majority of the mask appears to be some form of acrylic or plastic, but the inner red fabric is made of some sort of rubber compound that simulates fabric well while ensuring that it will last longer than you probably will. The lenses are plastic for sure, but they are a really great touch to the mask that adds even more depth and really makes you feel like it could be a zooming optic if you were too look through it. Reviewing the functionality of the mask if stupid since it isn’t made to be used, it is a display piece; but it is way too small to fit my or most peoples’ face.

I was super impressed at the case alone in which the Signet ring came. For being a budget replica, it is a hard-walled, faux leather coated jewelry box with padding under the top layer of leather which adorns a screen printed Dishonored 2 logo. It springs open responsively to reveal a royal purple fabric inside which holds tightly onto the ring. After eye-fucking the ring for a moment, I pulled it out and was really impressed at the weight. For being what I assume to be a cast powder-metal ring, the accessory feels truly heavy in the hand. The designs on the top of the ring are really well defined and have little to no burrs or roughness from the casting process. There is a small bit of excess material on the bottom of the ring, but it still appears that the piece was made with good tooling or was tumbled after casting.

The metal collector’s case came out of the box with some scratched off paint and apparent glue residue that after removing took off more of the art work. The case overall is quite nice and you have to be looking for these flaws to spot them, which is why I didn’t notice or mention them in the video. I am really anal about this sort of thing and it really isn’t that big of a deal, it will just eternally trigger me while no one else will never know the difference. Even the blemishes considered, the Collector’s Edition was more about the other collectibles than this and it is still really quite nice with the internal artwork, solid construction, and smoothly printed art.

The poster is pretty normal quality for a poster. Not a lithograph or anything of the sort, but offers both a remembrance of Jessamine and propaganda of Delilah. The little decal is cute. Nothing much to it, but might be nice for a themed build of some sort or if you just want to put it on your car to represent Dishonored 2.

Overall, I am totally stoked for my purchase of the Dishonored 2 Collector’s Edition. It has exceeded my expectations in so many ways that it is hard to really explain, but I did my best.
