A 1v5 group battle event was supposed to take place on July 23rd, but there were not enough participants for it. So I threw an open challenge for a first to 5 instead.

While this is the first time I have uploaded match footage featuring him, Agi (full username "AgiBufuZioGaruHamaMudo") is no stranger to Dissidia 012 at this point. He's had a presence in the 012 discord community since 2019 and has slowly built up a reputation of bold decision-making. Perhaps it does not come as a surprise then that his strongest character is arguably Jecht. Twisting close range mindgames is something Jecht is quite good at, and as such can reward unorthodox risk-taking that someone like Agi is willing to perform. We're talking about interrupting an instigated interaction with an assist, anti airing with Ultimate Jecht Shot or delaying Jecht Block to account for a delayed high priority LV3 Jecht Stream release.

Jecht mirrors are like an extravagant version of the Dissidia 012 rock-paper-scissor interaction. Fast bravery loses to assist interruptions, normal block + Jecht block, but beats HPs, charged attacks on start-up, HP attacks or regular movement. Dodge can evade attacks, but spot dashing and stage positioning can make them vulnerable to attacks. Jecht Block can cover charged attacks after a dodge, but charged attacks can be delayed indefinitely. What if you Jecht Block too early? Or clash with high priority and take damage from opponent's assist as it happens? Is it safer to just move in the vicinity and strike when it seems least likely? Maybe the opponent is waiting for that all along instead...

So going into this match-up, I fully expected to take advantage of these interactions myself, but what I ended up experiencing was pretty much the polar opposite. Instead of driving Agi into a third layer of the yomi lasagne, he punched me through the second layer without hesitation. Hits me out of charged attacks and punches THROUGH Jecht Beam. Combined with a high (initial) base bravery Side by Side build that I tailored for myself inifitally, and each interaction can have devastating results. Thanks to Hero's Seal, the first hit alone is 2100 hp + wall rush + assist into a full combo, which is well over 40 % hp. At that point Jecht is two clean hits away from winning the match, bravery break or not. Agi opts out of Together as One and instead uses Muscle Belt accessory to put more pressure on the bravery break. A respectable decision, though one I would not be willing to make myself.

Jecht mirrors are commonly quite fast, so in that sense it took a while for me to get my bearings here. Agi exhibited an exceptional amount of aggression in situations where it would matter, such as match start or post-HPs, so getting that first assist bar safely even with TaO wasn't easy. I also left multiple damage opportunities on the table, namely whiff punishes or converting dropped Jecht Rushes with Tidus assist. It sounds as though Agi is on his way to securing a convincing victory! But those familiar with my 2016-2017 tournament runs may remember that the fight truly begins when I'm in the red...
