DNA: Dark Native Apostole/PS2/PAL/ gameplay until the first save
This is a European exclusive game that's kinda fun but clunky as hell, It's made by Tamsoft and Hudson and published by Virgin Entertainment.
I guess the best way to describe it is as "dark action adventure Bomberman without grid based movement". It has a power creation system which outside of specific situations may as well have not been there (unless there are some super useful abilities I have no clue exist and I wont know cause there isn't even a wikipedia page on this ... thing), and a really cool stat system that allows you to manipulate various aspects of your character like jumping, speed, HP, attack, range ect. depending on the situation (but basically unless situation calls otherwise, it's all about range and speed), weapons are damn near worthless (guns are hard to aim without accidentally putting them away and all other weapons break after 5 hits).
I'll say this game belongs in the category of "so bad it's hilarious", it's not too hard aside from one moon logic driven section and one puzzle that needs to be cheesed with the help of the shortcomings of the physics engine ( I simply don't know what the intended solution could be).
It's a cheap game, you'll find it in bargain bins in europe for less than 5 euro.
It's halfway optimized (I think) the resolution is not changed from the japanese version but the cutscenes and the gamespeed seem right. It runs at 50 frames aside from when too much stuff is going on and than it doesn't.
The game dies if you try to play it from HDD and playing it off of the CD (It's not a DVD based game) in your PS2 sounds like drilling a hole in the roof and it never stops spinning the disc, load times aside from the initial start up (which takes good few minutes) aren't bad. In a given area/floor you load instantly when you change rooms and you have to wait a little bit every time you go to the new area/another floor.
I may cover this one day if I ever feel like doing some series about weird EU exclusives, It's not a long game and once you know how to break it it's quite easy.
