Change up your game with with some D&D optional rules for your D&D or Pathfinder game. This is something your dungeon master may ask for during an encounter or something you may want to lobby for. Most editions of dungeons and dragons have had some kind of skill or proficiency system going back to Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. There is always a set ability or stat assigned to that skill check, but why not switch up. 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons proficiency bonus system really does make this easier than ever. Many role-playing games have skill system in them so this would work games other than D&D or Pathfinder as well.
