Once you're inside the castle and Garro drops you off with Valentina, Dodo will carry the statues into a side room. After Dodo leaves, you will have control again. So, enter the room to the west and save your game. Now, open the door as if you're going into the next room and you'll hear Valentina telling Dodo to go polish the statues. That causes Mario to run back to the statue room and stand still on the pedestal. When Dodo comes in, you have two choices; jump whenever he tries to peck you, or just let him peck you. If you choose to dodge the pecks, only jump when he is about to peck you, not too early! Avoid all of the pecks, even the fast one in the middle, then when Dodo runs away and Mario does his victory pose, run into the previous room to find a Feather on the ground. If you want to get some Experience however, simply let Dodo peck you three times. You then face him in battle. The boss music plays, but it literally just takes a couple rounds of using regular attacks to win, so it doesn't quite qualify as a true boss fight.
Either way, after the fight, return to the Save Block in the previous room. Continue into the room ahead and wait for the guards to run away after they realize you're not a regular statue. From here, go into the north room and defeat the enemies, then continue into the following room. In there, defeat the Birdy and hit the chest to get a Recovery Mushroom. Continue into the north room to find a long hallway with three doors to the north. Defeat the Shamans and Birdys in here, then hit the chest in the northwest corner to find a Flower. First, enter the rightmost door. Continue through the two rooms while defeating the enemies, and hit the chest in the second room to obtain a Flower.
Return to the long hallway and enter the northwest door this time. Get through the next two rooms by defeating the enemies again. At the bottom of the steps in the second room, defeat the Jawful and jump in the spot where it was standing to reveal Hidden Treasure #35. Open it to receive a Frog Coin. Before you continue, walk southward and you will find a hidden path. Follow it to the northwest, then jump at the end to find Hidden Treasure #36 which holds another Frog Coin.
