In today's video we are taking a look at some battles in the Open Great League using Walrein with its brand new Community Day move set, featuring Powder Snow and Icicle Spear. With access to Earthquake as well, Walrein is now a potential monster for the Great League with solid coverage even for some of its worst match-ups.
While Walrein may reach its full potential in the Ultra League, I feel that the theme cups is where it will truly excel. Much like Dewgong, Walrein should be able to benefit from any cups where the majority of its hard counters are banned. The majority of which are going to be commonly used Pokémon such as Medicham and Bastiodon.
Walrein is now a solid pick for the Great League but still has a lot of weaknesses and potential threats. As a result, building a team around it can be difficult. The team we are using today is rated B, B, B, B on PvPoke and features Walrein in the lead with two Rock/Fighting type answers in the back. This team will definitely struggle against a lead such as Scrafty, Jellicent or possibly even Talonflame but has a good amount of coverage overall and worked well for me over three sets.
In this video we use a team consisting of: Walrein (Powder Snow, Icicle Spear*, Earthquake), Azumarill [Non-XL] (Bubble, Play Rough, Ice Beam) & Trevenant (Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, Seed Bomb).
