Resident Evil 4 is one of only a very few games that seems to have been given the title of “legendary”. With many regarding it as one of the greatest games of all time. But, for whatever reason, I hadn’t played it. But then, the perfect storm happened. A VR version of RE4 was released on the oculus store. So, a week or so ago, when I was looking for a new VR game to try, it was finally time to see if the game could live up to all the hype almost 20 years later and on a gaming platform it was never initially intended for. So, I’m almost to the final chapter of the game, and here’s my impressions: This game really holds up. Some Resident Evil games, especially the early ones, can come across as confusing and convoluted to me, but RE4 has the most polished and refined gameplay I’ve seen in the series so far. The puzzles, inventory management, and that special brand of horror are all in their purest forms. I know this game wasn’t originally intended to be played in VR, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the best VR games I’ve ever played. If you’ve played both versions of the game, let me know what you thought of the VR version. Because, for me, all the hype seems really well deserved.
