Was so many years I did this, so I can't actually remember how this works... I believe I only used the Split Up glitch for this one. The barrel appearing is currently a mystery :). While it does take me out of the level, it does not count as completed.

To active the Split Up glitch you need to enter a finished level with one Kong. Throw a DK barrel and press Start + Select to get out. Enter a level where you can die above a hole (If you don't, you'll be frozen on the ground). Enter any level and break a DK barrel and you'll now control both Kongs at once. Which has a lot of side-effects in combination with riding on animal buddies.
