"Ruby abyss": a very fitting name for the level indeed :)
The center of the map is a very large room with bloody rivers and blood-falls, with a very creepy architeture. The room has 4 doors, and a gigantic pillar in the middle. Each time one fourth of the path is completed, a sector of the middle pillar raises up and reveals enemies. First zombieman, then shotgun dudes, then chaingunners.
The first room has little danger, beside the fact that you have to wait a bit to get TGH (the green "harmour" heuheu I ate clownflakes). But it's actually the only moment where I lost a couple of second in a rather silly way with the switches. After picking up the bluekey btw, it's not important to kill the chaingunners spawned, as they will be telefragged later on in the level. The second area can be tricky with many many hitscanners, but it's not so complicated. This is a part where you can save LOT of time with some luck btw. Third area has some more annoying monster placement, like in the room you are cornered with revenants, but once learned it's not so hard neither. Returning to the start of the map at this point, I considered wisest to clear all the enemies appeared earlier on, before the final fight. The fourth part requires attention and it's pretty much a ssg festival ^^
Important to underscore, that the super shotgun is the best weapon avaiable, which makes the map exciting even more in my view. In this areas I tried to stock up the max of ammo possible in order to have enough to clear the last 2 cyberdemons without the need of breaks to collect more, like TGH did in his run, and to keep the highest health possible. The tactic used for the last fight is extrimely dangerous and pretty much relying on luck in some moments; You can see I try to have a direct line with the cyberdemon far away shooting at me, to time the circle strafes, but in few time you have him on your back and can't see if he's shooting or not. Considering how risky are a few rooms and the final fight, and the already beated times of ggmork and anima zero here, I stopped at my third exit, the first which was the current record. Previous DSDA record was 09:25 by the author himself, The Green Herring. A sub 9min would be reachable with some patience anddddd luck; I may try it after I finished the last 3 maps.
Every single room has very nice and catchy design and features, which makes in my opinion, this map a masterpiece and one of the most beautiful I ever played. Thanks for the beautiful level tgh !
ps: as I feared my intention of improving my time even more on map29 meant I'm on the half way to need a doom-break xd
i cant /dont want to do many attempts per day, because of the lenght, so in the end I may up my current record, dont know!
