I have done single segment speedruns of Plutonia and TNT on UV-Fast in the last year. They had been undone for a long time, so I was very concerned about these runs as a player who was involved with Compet-N. Well, I'm no longer a Compet-N player, and I won't bother playing Doom in a DOS crippled environment. Now, my target is Memento Mori 2 and Requiem on UV-Max. They were selected for Compet-N and single segment speedrun have not been done yet. I just have tried Memento Mori 2 (MM2) from the beginning of this year.

Having played MM2 again, I can't believe that it was released in 1996. At that time, a highly functional map editor did not exist, which would have been quite inconvenient. Although the details are not as good as the current wads, it is wonderful that they have added original textures and recreated a unified world view without any sense of discomfort. I think this is one of the perfect examples of classic megawads. The game aspect is also moderately balanced, but somewhat on the old-fashioned side. The game style is to defeat tough enemies mainly with the super shotgun (SSG) until the middle episode. The game tempo is slow because it takes a long time to deal with enemies with SSG. Some may find it boring if they are used to the speed and exhilaration of current wads.

This is about this speed run. My goal this time is to get under 4 hours. It wasn't that difficult and I got the desired record at the first finish, and since the sum of the individual UV-Max records for map 1-10 is just over 50 minutes, I think it's pretty good that I got through episode 1 in about 53 minutes. After that, it got slower and slower, and in episode 2, some of the maps were a bit slower, and in episode 3, I played most of the maps very carefully and my time was quite slow. My runs were in vain because of the failures on map 27 and map 29, which took a long time to reach. I think that caused quite a bit of mental damage and made me reluctant to play in the second half. I could go on and on about the minor mistakes I made, but the major ones were consecutive missed jumps on map 17 and map 26, and forgetting to get the red key on map 27.

I am still inexperienced in long speed runs. I would like to learn from other players demos and gain more experience before trying again.
