Doom Wads/Mods #649:Ozonia
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/ozonia Like I've said, I love a tale of redemption. I remember my disappointment with Exomoon for being visually striking yet, but I got annoyed by its agonizing enemy placement. But, to my surprise, Deadwing managed to bring home a out of towner hit from left field with Ozonia, Its time I give the credit due to it.
Ozonia was released in 2021 and is the 3rd wad of the Moonblood trilogy with a full 32 maps heavily inspired by The Plutonia Experiment and its full soundtrack composed by Deadwing gives it a energy and tension that I found unmatched from other 2022 wads. What Ozonia accomplishes is stunning to me: Deadwing put together a wad that has Plutonia's influence but doesn't smother nor hold your hand.
The music of Ozonia itself won the Odyssey of Noises award too and I couldn't agree more, as Deadwing brings a emotional pitch to each map with the music they composed. There's two custom monsters in Ozonia and both are very dangerous, reminding me of Scythe II's Evil Marine and the Ifrit. The only thing I'm not wild about is Ozonia's crypic secret finding which some are needed if on the wad's ultra violence like setting. This being said, Ozonia stands out as not just Deadwing's masterpiece but also a reflection of Doom mapping principles. I believe they deserved not just a winner spot, and the odyssey of noises award but also Creator of the Year at the 2022 cacoawards, My hats off to Deadwing for this beautiful piece of work.
