Like I've said in the past, There are creators who have made quite tough wads and mods in the Doom community. Among the difficult wads I've gone over, This one by Tango who has been seen in the 32-in-24 series, Back to Saturn X, and Paradise in addition to his Supercharge mod, released this 2014 cacoaward winner in December 2014.
Mayan Mishap is a 6 level wad with a distinctive Mayan temple/jungle theme with midi music inspired by tracks composed by David Wise & Eveline Fischer for Donkey Kong Country 3 and 1 track from Donkey Kong Country 2, Bonus level track being a original track by Basehead. Mayan Mishap from the word go has so much content to its name that its impressive Tango put this out before Paradise.
Firstly, This wad has a custom palette with new color alterations, There are 3 new enemies and of them, The Greater flying Mancubes and Cyber Baron are downright dangerous (while the Plasma Rifle Trooper doesn't appear at all but is in the files), Keys are now Light blue/Green/White, Finally DeHackED changes the behavior of all monsters.
Entering Mayan Mishap without a plan of action or caution will be the death of you: This wad reminds me heavily of Plutonia Experiment with its close quarter monster ambushes, platform locks, ammo chokes and lack of pity when you're low on ammo. The first level I almost had but Revenants in open areas along with damaging floors and close quarter rocket duels is a lethal combination, but I enjoyed Mayan Mishap for its challenge.
